Central America (part 1: Mexico)

Hi guys!

I have very recently got back from a month in Central America! It was absolutely amazing, and I already miss it! We did 5 countries within that month, so it was a tight squeeze, and we had to choose some countries to only spend a few days in.

I travelled with 5 of my university friends, and we actually created a blog about our travels which we all contributed to, which I will link at the end!

I will write about each country individually as I think that’s easier that trying to fit everything into one post.

The first country we visited was Mexico! Our flight was from London to cancun, and was a total of 11 hours (luckily there were films on the flight which made it more bearable).

We arrived into cancun at around midday, and as soon as we walked outside, we were hit by the heat! It was about 34 degrees, but the closeness and humidity made it feel about double that. We got a bus to Playa del  Carmen where our hostel was. Playa del Carmen is a cool part of Mexico, but quite touristy, which is not what we would choose, but it was a good place to start.

Our hostel was called humble bumble. It has an awesome roof top bar with a pool and hammocks, and was conveniently opposite a big supermarket.

On our first full day in Mexico, we took a collectivo (a small local bus) to a beach called akumal. We didn’t really know what to expect, as we were told to go there by one of our hostel roommates. But we are so glad that we did! It was a beautiful white sand beach with lots of palm trees and beautiful clear water, and although there were loads of people on the beach, it still felt serene and lovely. And at the beach we could rent snorkelling gear, and swim with huge turtles that grazed on Sea grass, which grew not too far from the shore. So we hired this equipment, which was about £10 for two sets, and spent the day here.

It was amazing to snorkel with turtles. I didn’t expect it to be easy to spot them, but even meters from the shore we spotted numerous turtles! They were so graceful and unaffected by the presence of people. We swam around them, and watched as they swam to the surface for air. Whilst on the beach we also saw an octopus, sting rays and lots of other awesome animals!

We got pretty burnt as we didn’t want to wear sun cream into the water, in case it harmed the turtles health, so I was very glad that I brought a huge container of aftersun! But what a great first day!

The next day we wanted to go to tulum, which is a large area of Mayan ruins recently discovered. We took a long collectivo and queued for a long time, but it was worth it! To enter the ruins, we walk through a canopy area, and got to see iguanas and lizards, which was unexpected but awesome!

The site was really great, and there were so many ruins to see. It was easy to imagine the mayans living there, and the information at the site was really interesting. The heat was horrendous though. Even after walking 10 minutes we were dripping with sweat, and there was little to no shade to hide in. But luckily the site has steps down to a beautiful but crowded beach. We found a spot on the beach, and ran straight into the water to cool ourselves down. I remember being in the water and looking up onto the ruins and thinking how lucky I am to be there! We

Once we had cooled, we went back into the ruins and finished looking round. Once finished, and after walking out of the ruins to find food, we went to find supposedly the most beautiful beach in Mexico. Even with high expectations, this did not dissapoint. Playa del paradiso. You can tell by the name that this was paradise. It was a long stretch of bright white sand, palm trees and clear blue water. We expected there to be crowds of people, but we were almost the only ones there! This made it extra special. We spent the rest of the day on the beach, eating freshly cooked pizzas and dipping in and out of the sea as we pleased. We

The last day in Mexico, we wanted to explore playa del Carmen. It was very commercialised, with lots of tourist shops. It felt a lot like a city in England, only 10x hotter. We bought some gifts for family and friends, and went to find the beach. This beach was definitely not as nice. It was very crowded, there was almost no free sand to sit in. Also, for some reason there was loud club music blaring from restaurants, which took away any chill atmosphere from the beach. But it was still nice to be in the water, and it was a good time to write postcards and play soduko.

So that’s our time in Mexico in a nutshell. Next part will be about belize!

If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear them!!

Perfect summer dress and shoes!

Hello! I am bored at home today, and so I thought I would do a quick fire post about the perfect summer dress and shoes that I recently purchased. Hopefully it can help you if you are looking for something pretty to buy 😊

Firstly is a dress I bought in topshop whilst on holiday in Cornwall a couple of days ago. I was looking for a graduation dress, and I knew I didn’t want anything too fancy, so when I came across this dress I was so excited! It’s a lovely bright blue colour which is great as I love to wear bold colours, and luckily they are in style right now too💙. The material is linen, and so it is very lightweight and airy,  perfect for a hot summer’s day. As you can see, it is a crossover dress and ties in at the waist, which is very flattering and feminine, if that is what you are after. The sleeves are very flowy which is again great for summer (no sweat patches), and is again a very flattering style! The dress is on the pricey side, costing £46 but I got student discount, and I know I will be wearing it a lot, so hopefully it will be worth the price!

To go with the dress, and found these absolutely perfect heeled shoes on asos. I wore these at graduation and got so many compliments from strangers, it was so sweet! They have pointed toes which I think is very elegant, and have a strap around the ankle which gives a feminine and dainty touch. The shoes have a shiny gold base colour, and on top of this has lots of textured flowers. These are even more beautiful in person and look beautiful when walking on grass. The shoes have a number of colours so I think it will be easy to pair these with many dresses, and I am also planning to wear them with blue high waisted jeans and a plain white top. Again, they were on the pricey side, coming in st £40, but they are great quality and are going to be getting a hell of a lot of use!

Thank you for reading! I will be doing a room tour post soon, so if you are interested please keep a look out for that!

GRADUATING WITH A FIRST 👩‍🎓

Hello! I am a graduate!!!!! (Hope you can tell how excited I am!)

On Wednesday I officially graduated with a first class degree from the university of Birmingham. (Eeeek!)

Graduation was such a special day. If you want to read about it please continue- also I will do a post about what I wore and how I did my make up so please look out for that if you want to 👩‍🎓

My graduation ceremony began at 9:45am, which is early enough already, but we had to be there two hours early to collect tickets, get fitted with our robes and have our pictures taken. That means I had to set my alarm for 5:30am to get myself ready 🙃 I stayed at my boyfriends house in Birmingham and then we both walked to meet my friend so we could go and get tickets and robes together. It was so fun wearing the robes and getting the pictures taken was also fun, although I have  a feeling I am going to hate mine.

After we got ready, I met my family who had driven from the Cotswolds that morning. By the time they arrived it was time to get seated. It was amazing as a live orchestra played in the great hall at the university, which is such a beautiful building to graduate in. They called our names one by one and we went into the stage, shook hands with the vice chancellor and then walked through the middle of the audience. This was pretty nerve wracking and the main thing on my mind was not falling over! Luckily that didn’t happen.
Once graduation was over, we all swarmed outside for photos and food, as well as pimms (the best thing ever). I was so lucky that the weather was amazing!!

Robes had to be returned and after consuming a lot of food and drink, my family and I headed to a lovely restaurant nearby to have lunch. The restaurant is called the white swan, and I highly reccomend it if ever you find yourself in Birmingham!

It was such an incredible day that I will never forget! But now I have to go out into the real world and find a real job and live in a real house, which is all quite overwhelming but I guess taking it step by step will be less daunting.

Thank you for reading! Has anyone else graduated recently? Or if you have any questions about university of graduating, I would love to answer them!

A happy holiday in Cornwall! & life update 🌞

Hi!

Wow I am so sorry it has been so long since I posted!

I finished my exams at last! And since then I have been quite busy, as well as having days doing nothing 😀

Also I thought I would mention that I got my results and got a first! Pretty chuffed 😊 I graduate on Wednesday so I will post something about that after!

Anyway.

For the past week I have been in Cornwall on a family holiday. It was me, my two sisters, my parents and my boyfriend, and of course our dog Nora.

We stayed in a chalet in a place called gwithean. We have been staying in this part of Cornwall for our summer holidays since I was born, so it is always so amazing coming back there and reliving childhood memories.

The place is pretty small for 6 people, but still so cute and homely. Also, it is very close to the beautiful gwithean beach- you just have to walk across some sand dunes and you’re there!

Also, there’s a really cute cafe called the jampot that you walk past on the way there where you can buy cream teas and other yummy treats! We had an amazing breakfast there on the last day.

We packed in a lot of swimming, surfing and wandering around pretty towns. It was such a good holiday and I can’t wait to go back soon!

I’ll write a lot more ffrom now on! Let me know how you are and if you love Cornwall too!

How me and my boyfriend of 5 years met

I thought I would share this so that you can get to know me better. Also I am always interested in other people’s boyfriend stories so if any of you are like me, then this is for you.

My boyfriend Kit and I have been together for (almost) 5 years. I’m only 21 so we were pretty young at 16 when we first met. And it’s one of those times when it’s just coincidence that you meet. So I’m pretty lucky that it was on my side!

I was invited to a party one afternoon, for later that evening. The party was a friend of a friends, and it was quite far away, so I wasn’t sure. But, at sixteen, and being quite into parties, I said yes. I got ready and we got a lift with a friends parents.

As soon as we got to the party, I instantly fancied this guy in the corner of the room. He was honestly like my ideal person that I would always describe when people asked. I thought he was way older than me though. I am kind of awkward and shy but we started talking and got on really well. We danced to some cool songs and drank and he played the guitar, and luckily he asked for my number before I left that same evening.

We had briefly spoken about me going to bath (a city in England) the next day with my friend, who happened to be seeing his friend. But that was the last we had spoken of it. But the next day, as me and my friend were shopping in bath, Kit turned up out of the blue as a surprise! It was so exciting and I was so glad that he actually wanted to see me.

Long story short, he asked me out a month later and we’ve been together ever since! Not many people know this story but I think it’s so sweet and it makes me happy to remember.
